#711 : Final Show with LIVE Jam (25 Sept 2019)

After 13 years of bringing you a weekly Blues Room show each Wednesday evening on Free FM, year in and year out, 52 weeks a year, with no holiday breaks (or holiday pay lol) we bring this labor of love - or as my father would say, 'community service' - to an end. I wish to thank you ALL for your wonderful support, your friendship, and your generosity shown me over the years. I couldn't have done it on my own. To bring it all to a close I invited a few excellent local musicians up into the studio to jam live to air and that's exactly what they did. And we even had birthday cake to celebrate my birthday! Thanks guys! I dedicate this episode to the memory of my musical mentor, my Dad (Bardia Pine Taiapa), and to our blues brother, Max McDonald.

Be sure to tune in to The Blues Machine with Mark 'Fatt Max' Hill each Wednesday on Free FM.

This is Nate signing off, thanks guys, that is in deed a wrap!

Midge Marsden and Band to play Hamilton's Nivara Lounge on 21st July 2018

Midge Marsden is New Zealand’s finest Rhythm and Blues artist.

Midge’s career is unparalleled in New Zealand and his professional career spans 50 years. He has played thousands of concerts to thousands of fans and has performed with a list of artists that reads like a definitive whose who of NZ music luminaries.

This year Midge is celebrating 50 years in the industry with the release of his double CD ' The Midge Marsden Collection'

The Midge Marsden Collection is a career retrospective, spanning 50 years in music from one of New Zealand's most revered musical entertainers and journeymen of rhythm and blues.

For the first time and curated by Midge himself, this special 28 - track 2CD release opens with a classic Van Morrison band influenced version of the Big Joe Williams song ' Baby Please Don't Go', recorded in 1967 by Wellington based R & B group ' The Breakaways' featuring Midge on lead vocals and harmonica.

The album offers a fascinating insight into Midge's musical history covering his classic R&B roots, country - fused, big band & blues rock genres.

Don't miss this opportunity to see Midge and the Band performing songs from his entire career, in what is guaranteed to be a sell out show.

#642 :: LIVE Recording Wednesday featuring Darcy Perry Band at Hamilton Gardens

Darcy Perry and his renowned blues ensemble present a live concert featuring songs from the Don’t Hold Back and Heavy Rain albums. Straight from the sound desk, this is the real deal. In the words of Simen ‘Bluekeys’ Taylor, “It ain't jazz, and it ain't pretty, but this is singing and playing that will make you feel alive.”

Hailed as “one of the new breed of blues guitar heroes”, Perry earns his reputation as a charismatic live performer, with the band that went from playing bars to headlining international music festivals; harmonica ace Craig Bracken, Norwegian pianist Simen 'bluekeys' Taylor, bass player Paul Merriott

A double-disc album recorded by Paul Krippner (PK Sound) on Friday night the 24th of February, at the Hamilton Gardens Summer Arts Festival. With plenty of improvised musical adventures, including some of the group's best known songs, this album captures blistering call and response between musicians who share a deep understanding of the blues.

For the latter half of the concert they are also joined by the Young Blood Horns; Alistair Porter (trombone) and Andrew Hall (saxophones). Darcy's brother, Regan Perry (guitarist for Cornerstone Roots), also features as a special guest.

Mastered by Jason Backhouse at More Core Audio, Kelston, Auckland, NZ.

"Live At Hamilton Gardens" now on iTunes, Amplifier, Amazon, Google Play and Spotify.
