MOOKIE BRINGS HOME THE GOLD! Congratulations to man-about-town Mookie Brill, once again winning the Blues Music Award in the Instrumentalist - Bass category! VizzTone nominees were well represented at this year's Awards show, with a stunning set by Gaye Adegbalola (featuring Bob Margolin), and dynamic appearances by Bruce Katz, Terry Hanck, and Rich DelGrosso. Hats off to the Blues Foundation for one of the best shows ever, and one hell of a weekend! For a Where's Waldo moment, check out these candid shots!
UPCOMING RELEASES: June 23 will see the release of TWO new Shane Dwight CDs! Shane's fiery talent is so big and bright that ONE new CD just isn't enough. Shane Dwight / Plays the Blues contains 10 original tracks (with guest appearances by VizzTone cohorts Bob Margolin and Richard Rosenblatt), and Gimme Back My Money features some of Shane's songs that cross over into Rock, Country, Urban R&B and Americana. July 7 VizzTone will release two more great blues CDs: We are tremendously proud to present Born Lover, by the natural-born son of the great Muddy Waters, Big Bill Morganfield! We are also thrilled to be partnering with our good friend Bob Corritore's Southwest Musical Arts Foundation Records on the latest release by powerhouse singer Big Pete Pearson, Finger In Your Eye, featuring guest appearances by Pinetop Perkins, Duke Robillard, Henry Gray and more. (And contrary to popular rumor, Big Bill and Big Pete do NOT share a hat.) We are also proud to announce the upcoming release of the much-anticipated David Maxwell & Louisiana Red / You Got To Move. Watch for more info on this one later in the Summer!

Gina Sicilia and Christine Santelli are hailed by acclaimed music critic David McGee in the most recent issue of The Bluegrass Special, in an article entitled "How Blue Can You Get? Gina Sicilia and Christine Santelli, equally at home in blues and country, scorch the earth and hurt so good on their stunning new albums." Yeah, I'd say he gets it. Read the whole, brilliant article HERE.
Super Chikan is the subject of a feature article in the latest Blues Revue. He is also prominently featured in the documentary Delta Rising, which has been receiving accolades at film festivals around the world. Later this Summer he'll be performing a major concert in New York City's Central Park and returning to Norway's acclaimed Notodden Blues Festival. Gaye Adegbalola has been touring extensively with her group Saffire during their 25th and final year. As Gaye puts it, "For many years our visions coincided, but as we have aged and grown, our individual needs have changed. Our love of the music and our love for each other has not changed. As we move forward in different musical directions, we look forward to providing support and encouragement to each other... As Ann so clearly put it, she wants to be 'musically promiscuous, instead of faithful to the same partners.' Gaye and Andra say, 'Ditto.'" Matthew Stubbs will be on tour with Charlie Musselwhite all summer. Rich DelGrosso has been invited to teach and perform this summer at the Accademia Internazionale Italiana di Mandolino. They want some mandolin blues! At the end of week 1 he'll be performing there in the Blues to Bop Festival.
Scissormen's Ted Drozdowski has just produced a new album for New England-based roots guitarist Peter Parcek, tentatively clled The Mathematics of Love. Guests include Al Kooper, Ronnie Earl, and bassist Marty Ballou as well as Boston music scene MVPs Jimmy Ryan (mandolin) and Dan Kellar (violin). Bob Margolin is keeping up a strong summer touring shedule and working on a new live album. Dave Gross has been on tour this year with his group as well as with label mate Gina Sicilia. When off the road, he has been very active in the studio, producing a slew of veteran as well as up-and-coming artists. The Bruce Katz Band is currently on a 9-city tour in the Midwest, ending May 31. Recently, Bruce recorded a new CD, Project A, the music of Aretha Franklin. The band included Jerry Jemmott, members of Bruce's and Ronnie Earl's bands, and a great horn section. The CD will come out later this year on the Anzic label. In June, Bruce is going to Brazil with John Hammond, and July, he'll be on tour with Gregg Allman. Bruce is keeping busy!
