Bluesfest 2017 Wrap Up & 2018 Pre-Early Bird Tickets On Sale NOW!

The 28th Annual Bluesfest Byron Bay, which only just finished a week ago has been a huge success, with over 105,000 attendees enjoying the incredible music on offer, the beautiful weather and happy vibe around the festival. The festival hosted 85 bands with a total of 670 artists who gave 185 outstanding performances across the weekend. Wow!

Check out how Peter Noble, the Festival Director feels about Bluesfest 2017 further down, what some of the artists had to say and take a look at the amazing daily video clips. They're really well done. Roll on 2018!

Bluesfest Festival Director, Peter Noble OAM comments on this year's event:

I think everybody that came this year will tell you that this has been one of the great Bluesfests, and in my opinion certainly within our top 3. I will always be asked who are my favourite artists and who are the great success stories in terms of artists playing for the first time, there are almost too many to mention.

From Laura Mvula, Nikki Hill and Melody Angel to Mary J. Blige and the incomparable Eric Gales there is a never ending list and if you were actually here at Bluesfest you would know what I'm talking about. The emerging artists are now known artists, the returning artists have cemented their careers even more strongly and every single legend shone.

However in the end the biggest stars in the sky at Bluesfest were our audience, they are simply astonishingly wonderful. And all our team who work so hard to put this show on I'm sure would say we did it for you, and you do it for us.

Our last Bluesfest only finished a week ago and we have had an abundance of phone calls/emails as to when the Pre- Early Bird Tickets are going on sale for 2018, so here we are dear friends, giving you the opportunity to purchase your 5 Day Festival Ticket or Buddy Pack at a bargain price for a very short time only.

Bluesfest will be earlier in 2018 with the long Bluesfest Easter weekend starting on Thursday 29th of March to Monday 2nd of April.

SANTANA LIVE IN CONCERT WITH
SPECIAL GUESTS THE DOOBIE BROTHERS - APRIL 2017

Legendary guitar virtuoso, multi Grammy Award winner and a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, CARLOS SANTANA, and his band SANTANA, are coming to New Zealand on his Transmogrify Tour to play one Auckland show on Tuesday 18th April at the Vector Arena. Tickets are on sale Tuesday 29th November at 12 noon local time.

SANTANA last toured New Zealand in 2013, playing Auckland with The Steve Miller Band in what one reviewer described as an ‘exceptional’ double bill. Delivered with a level of passion and soul equal to the legendary sonic charge of his guitar, SANTANA returns to our shores performing songs from over four decades of his career including hits and songs of yesterday, today and tomorrow.

This time around, the mighty DOOBIE BROTHERS will join Santana as Special Guests, adding to both artist’s already announced appearances on the mammoth bill for the 28th Annual Bluesfest in Byron Bay.

In addition to playing Auckland with Carlos Santana, THE DOOBIE BROTHERS will be takin’ it to the streets of Wellington, playing their own one-off show at the TSB Bank Arena on Thursday 20th April. A global enduring favourite of the 1970’s, The Doobie Brothers combine a touch of blues, and plenty of soul and rock ‘n roll to create their nostalgic Californian rock sound. Their celebrated back catalogue of music includes hits like ‘Listen To The Music’, ‘Long Train Runnin’, ‘What A Fool Believes’ and so many more.

The passion infused, melodic sound of CARLOS SANTANA’s guitar is one of the world's best-known musical signatures. For more than four decades - from Santana's earliest days as a groundbreaking Afro-Latin-blues-rock fusion outfit in San Francisco - Carlos has been the visionary force behind artistry that transcends musical genres and generational, cultural and geographical boundaries.

From Woodstock to the Hollywood Bowl and everywhere in between, CARLOS SANTANA is one of the most prolific and influential guitarists of all time. In a career spanning more than forty years, Santana has sold in excess of 100 million records and reached more than 100 million fans at concerts across the globe, with no less than ten Grammy Awards and three Latin Grammy Awards to his name. 1999’s Supernatural album saw Santana chalk up a record-tying nine Grammy’s for a single project, including awards for Album of the Year and Record of the Year for ‘Smooth’. Among many other honours, Rolling Stone has cited Carlos Santana as #15 on their list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time”.

April 2016 heralded the release of SANTANA’s 24th studio album, Santana IV, featuring sixteen all-new tracks and claiming a No.5 Billboard Top 200 debut. Fans were thrilled to have the original late-1960’s lineup featured on the record, the same band that performed at Woodstock; Carlos Santana (guitar, vocals), Gregg Rolie (keyboards, lead vocals), Neal Schon (guitar, vocals), Michael Carabello (percussion) and Michael Shrieve (drums).

THE DOOBIE BROTHERS’ legacy has been built not just on hit records, but also on an unrivalled commitment to musical integrity and a steadfast allegiance to their enthusiastic fan base. The band’s ability to evolve in a constantly changing industry and connections to generations of listening audiences is a testament to their craft. With founding members Tom Johnston and Pat Simmons, and 30 year-plus veteran John McFee, The Doobies will be performing as a seven-piece band including Bill Payne, Ed Toth, John Cowan and Marc Russo.

THE DOOBIE BROTHERS were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2004, have won four Grammy Awards and sold more than 48 million records worldwide (including three multi-platinum, seven platinum and fourteen gold albums). Their 1976 Best of the Doobies has sold more than 12 million copies, earning rare RIAA Diamond status. Their No.1 gold certified singles ‘Black Water’ (1974) and ‘What A Fool Believes’ (1979) lead a catalogue of hits that includes ‘Listen To The Music’, ‘Jesus Is Just All Right’, ‘Rockin’ Down The Highway’, ‘Long Train Runnin’, ‘China Grove’, ‘Take Me In Your Arms’, ‘Takin’ It To The Streets’, ‘Minute By Minute’, ‘You Belong To Me’ and ‘The Doctor’. In all, The Doobies have tallied five Top 10 singles and sixteen Top 40 hits.

SANTANA will touch down in New Zealand with Special Guests THE DOOBIE BROTHERS straight off the back of a multi-year residency at the famous House of Blues in Las Vegas. He will be set to ignite stages across the country once again, with a style that fuses Latin rock, blues, soul and jazz, transcending time and the limits of genre typecasting.

SANTANA will play one show at Auckland’s Vector Arena, Saturday 15th April
with The Doobie Brothers as special guests.

THE DOOBIE BROTHERS will play a standalone show at
Wellington’s TSB Bank Arena on Thursday 20th April.

"It was very moving to have all these people paying tribute to me, but I just treated it like it was another show," Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and six-time GRAMMY®-winner Dr. John says of The Musical Mojo of Dr. John: A Celebration of Mac & His Music.

Released on October 14, 2016 via Concord Records the expansive live tribute set, created and produced by Keith Wortman, CEO of Blackbird Presents, is a powerful testament to the far-ranging influence and indomitable musical spirit of the iconic New Orleans singer/pianist/guitarist. Encompassing a two-CD, Blu-ray and DVD package along with a stand-alone two-CD version, The Musical Mojo of Dr. John captures a star-studded concert at New Orleans' Saenger Theatre, with Dr. John joined by a stunningly diverse assortment of notable guest artists, who perform 22 songs written, recorded and/or popularized by Dr. John during his prolific six-decade career, honoring his large and still-growing musical legacy.

The performers include Bruce Springsteen, who duets with Dr. John on the 1973 smash "Right Place Wrong Time"; Jason Isbell, who delivers a heartfelt "Blow Wind Blow"; John Fogerty, who performs the raucous Crescent City anthem "New Orleans"; Mavis Staples, who brings gospel fervor to "Lay My Burden Down"; Widespread Panic, who lend musical muscle to "Familiar Reality"; and Ryan Bingham, who delivers a haunting "Back by the River."

Fittingly, The Musical Mojo of Dr. John also features memorable performances by several New Orleans legends, including Allen Toussaint, Irma Thomas, Terence Blanchard, John Boutté, Big Chief Monk Boudreaux, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, George Porter Jr. and Zigaboo Modeliste of the Meters, and Aaron, Charles and Cyril Neville. Bassist Don Was served as the project's musical director, leading an all-star house band that also included Allman Brothers Band/Rolling Stones keyboardist Chuck Leavell, renowned NOLA pianist John Gros, Funky Meters guitarist Brian Stoltz and journeyman drummer Kenny Aronoff, as well as Dr. John's longstanding musical compatriot, trombonist Sarah Morrow.

Joe Bonamassa Rocked Auckland Town Hall

Credit: Joe Bonamassa (12 Sept 14, Auckland, NZ)
Joe Bonamassa came to play a concert in the Auckland town hall last Friday, it was his first time in New Zealand and I have to say - he rocked!!!! He opened with an acoustic set then rocked it out electric. The place was packed, the sound was loud, and the night was magic!

I wasn't going to go (being a music lover one has to pick and choose which concerts to go to as it can get pretty expensive) but when a friend offered me a ride I jumped to the opportunity. I'm glad I did! When I got to the venue I needed to purchase my ticket so I left my place in line (I could hear Joe starting up his acoustic set!!) and literally ran to the ticket sales booth. I presenting my credit card and said I needed to purchase a ticket. A sales person asked me if I was there to buy a ticket or pick up a ticket. I said to buy a ticket. She held up a ticket that some one didn't need as their friend had not been able to make it last minute, and she asked if I'd like the ticket, for free! Well hell yeah, YES PLEASE! I thanked them and went in to the concert. The door person looked at my ticket and excitedly said, 'you got the free ticket!' She told me that the person who gave up the ticket would be sitting on my right.

What a pleasure it was to meet Wayne Alexander of Dunedin, Unfortunately I had no cash to give him in return for the ticket but posting him some blues-rock CDs might be a small way to say 'thank you'! I'm so glad I went to see Joe Bonamassa!!!! Heres a highlight clip I took, not only was Joe's guitar and singing tops, his drummer and percussionist were boss!!!
